The Best Time to Visit the Acropolis of Lindos

Rhodes seasons, the cruise-and-coach rhythm of the day, and the hours that give you the temple cool, quiet and in golden light.

Updated June 2026 · Acropolis of Lindos Tickets Concierge Team

The Acropolis of Lindos is open every day, so the real question is when the light is best, the heat bearable and the steep stairway quietest. It's one of the most-visited sites in Greece on a major cruise island, so timing matters more here than almost anywhere. Here's how Lindos feels through the seasons and across a single day.

Season by season

Late spring (May–June) and September–October are the sweet spot: warm seas, kinder temperatures for the climb, and fewer crowds than the July–August peak. High summer is hot — often into the mid-30s°C — with a shadeless stairway and the busiest cruise and coach traffic. Winter is mild and quiet, with shorter opening hours but the calmest visit of the year.

Whatever the month, hours follow the season — longer in summer, shorter in winter — with last entry about 30 minutes before closing, so check the day's hours before you set out.

The best hours of the day

Climb right at opening or in the last two hours before closing. Both dodge the mid-morning-to-early-afternoon wave when cruise groups and coaches arrive on Rhodes, and both give you cooler air for the stairway and lower, warmer light over the sea and the village. Midday in summer is the hottest, busiest and least comfortable time to climb an exposed cliff.

Because your ticket is reserved for the date you choose, you can simply turn up at the cool, quiet end of your chosen day.

Beating the heat and the crowds

The climb and the acropolis are almost entirely without shade, so in summer treat sun and water as seriously as the history: hat, sunscreen, refillable water and sturdy shoes for the steps. A good plan is to climb early while it's cool, then drop back into the village for breakfast and a swim at St Paul's Bay as the heat builds.

Frequently asked

Is the Acropolis of Lindos ever closed?

It's open every day of the year. Only the daily hours change with the season — longer in summer, shorter in winter, with last entry about 30 minutes before closing.

What's the quietest time to visit?

Right at opening or the final two hours of the afternoon, and outside the July–August peak. Spring and autumn weekdays are ideal.

How hot does it get in summer?

High summer regularly reaches the mid-30s°C with no shade on the climb, so go early or late and bring sun protection and water.

Does a dated ticket let me choose the day?

Yes. You pick your date when you book and we reserve your entry for that day, with no fixed time slot.
